8th Annual EURAPS Research Council Meeting

Helsinki, Finland, 22-23 May 2019

We hope you will participate in 8th EURAPS Research Council meeting, scheduled for May 22-23, 2019 in Helsinki, Finland.

These are exciting times to be involved in plastic surgery research! The 8th EURAPS Research Council meeting 2019 will bring together global plastic surgeons and researchers in the fields and contiguity of tissue engineering, fat grafting, malignant tumors, wound healing, scars, microsurgery, imaging, outcome studies, regenerative medicine, immunology, breast, composite tissue allografts, peripheral nerve, stem cell biology, face… just to mention few current research interests in plastic surgery.

In medicine, we are entering the era of precision medicine, and plastic surgery is following this path. Actually, we are in the forefront of patient-centered treatment -paradigm shifts. Other medical and surgical specialties see plastic surgeons as imaginative, original, inventive, and ingenious. Our specialty is based on solving problems, creating solutions and innovations for the best of the individual patient. Direct quote from Dr. Rohrich &colleagues; “You can never have too much innovation.” Much of the innovations are of course based on the solid clinical background, however, without cross-fertilization of ideas and findings between basic research and clinical practice, translation from vial into clinical practice will never happen.

In the 8th iteration of the ERC Meeting we aim to steer back – towards basic research and give room to young and young-at-heart researchers in basic research not forgetting clinical, translational research. You can be sure that we are doing our best and beyond to make this happen – with you!

The iconic congress and event venue Finlandia Hall by architect Alvar Aalto will provide us worthy surroundings to enjoy scientific presentations and discuss them in a sophisticated yet casual Finnish atmosphere.

Now you may ask, what else can I do May 22-23, 2019 in Helsinki, Finland. The city offers you urban ambience with art nouveau – or as we call it in Finland jugend – architecture, art and cultural history museums, coffee shops, sightseeing by bus or by boat, shopping & design experiences extraordinaire. Or wear your swimsuit in the in-town seawater swimming pool Allas Sea Pool or go backpacking in the forest wilderness in the Nuuksio national park with mosquitoes and skinny dipping in lakes.

You choose – whatever suits you and feel free to like and enjoy or dislike our national candy, salty liquorice. Just make sure you make it to Helsinki.

Yours sincerely
Virve Koljonen and Susanna Kauhanen
